The geographical area known today as Anambra State of Nigeria, came into being on August 27, 1991, following the creation of
states exercise of that historic year. It was created from the Old Anambra State. Significantly enough, it derives its name from the Anambra River
which is a tributary of the majestic River Niger. The capital Anambra state is Awka, but it has Onitsha and Nnewi as its major commercial centre. The
Onitsha main market is reputed to be the largest of its kind in the West African sub-region.
This is a festival of masquerades held in communities all around Anambra state where colorful masquerades all come around to dance and entertain people in fufilment of the custtoms of the land.
This is a festival of the awka people which is celebrated annually. People of all works of life visit to enjoy the rich heritage of the awka people.
This is a festival of the Onitsha people which is celebrated annually to thank God for successful continous reign of their King.
The Izaga masquerade is a beautiful masquerade and is also the tallest masquerade in igbo land. The izaa masquerade moves with prestigious long strides.
The Ijele masquerade is the flagship masquerade of the Anambra people. The colorful masquerade does no share arena with anyother masquerade suring its outings and performances.
Onugbu soup is one of the trademark soup of the Anambra people. A special delicacy made from bitter leaf and palm oil.
